Giving to the NYSID Library

  Conditions of Acceptance

The Library of the New York School of Interior Design welcomes offers of books, periodicals and other information
resources that may strengthen our collections and support the curriculum of the College.  The Library will ask to
review potential donations prior to acceptance and always reserves the right to decline an offer of materials that
are already held in our collections, are deemed to be out of the Library’s scope of collections, or inconsistent with
plans for collection development and available space.  To facilitate such a review, a list of titles may be requested
  from the potential donor.

The Library only accepts gifts intended for its own collections.

The following types of material are generally not accepted as donations:

  • Text books
  • Superceded editions
  • Scattered collections of periodicals
  • Periodical runs already held by the Library
  • Works that fall outside our collection development policy
  • Drawings or documents produced as part of a professional’s practice

  Acknowledgement and Record Keeping

On acceptance of a gift, a letter of acknowledgement will be sent to the donor.  It is the responsibility of the donor
to arrange for the transfer of donated materials to the college.

Income Tax Deductions and Gift Appraisals

The New York School of Interior Design cannot provide any donor with a valuation of gift materials.  Donors wishing
monetary appraisals of their gifts should seek them from outside parties not affiliated with the College.  No reference
to price or value will be included in a letter of acknowledgement.  Library staff can not provide a donor with advice
pertaining to the IRS tax code.
