Introduction to the IDOL Image Database
| IDOL (Interior Design OnLine)
is the digital image database of the New York School of Interior Design.
It provides a searchable database of images of architecture, interiors,
furniture, architectural details and decorative arts to complement the
curriculum of New York School of Interior Design. It is a resource for
NYSID students and faculty, designers, researchers and the general public
with an interest in design. The collections in IDOL are always
growing, to offer an ever broader and deeper range of relevant images.
IDOL is divided into two collections that can be searched separately: IDOL - Interior Design OnLine, the public end of the collection which will eventually be made available for free to the general public, and IDOL Teaching Collection which is a repository of the personal image collections of NYSID's faculty. Both collections can be searched together and incorporated into on-campus presentations, image study pages, etc. The teaching collection is only available on campus or remotely to registered NYSID students, faculty and staff. IDOL is built in Luna Imaging's Insight database software. To search the database, the browser client link (Web Browser Interface) can be followed. This will open the Luna Browser through MS Explorer. Note: to use the Web Browser, Pop-Up Blockers must be disabled. However, to utilize the full functionality of Luna Insight, the JVA client should be downloaded. This not only allows greater functionality, it also allows users to make PowerPoint and HTML presentations. PC users should follow this link: PC JVA Client Download, while Macintosh users should follow this one: Mac JVA Client Download, to download the Luna JVA Client. This must be installed on your computer. You will then have full access to the IDOL collections. Searching IDOL is very much like searching a library catalog: you can search by an image's title, creator, subject, period/style, date, keywords, etc. The library staff is here to provide assistance and the software includes help screens. The software can also be used to generate PowerPoint or HTML presentations, facilitating classroom teaching and student presentations. |
