IDOL (Interior Design OnLine) is the New York School of Interior
Design's online digital image collection.
There are two ways to access the IDOL Database:
IDOL Web Browser -- Allows web-based
access to "IDOL: Interior Design OnLine" (public collection), "IDOL
Teaching
Collection" and "Personal Insight
Collections" (see
Glossary of Terms below). No downloads or installations are necessary.
N.B. Pop-Up Blockers must be disabled to use
collection. To disable Pop-Up Blockers, go to the "Tools" menu on your
browser and click
on "Turn Off Pop-Up Blockers". The IDOL Web Browser does not currently allow
searching of more than
one collection concurrently.
"JVA Client" -- The "JVA Client" is a
software application manufactured by Luna Imaging, Inc. that allows greater
power
and functionality for image manipulation, grouping images and making
presentations. The "JVA Client" also allows
searching of multiple collections concurrently. However, this
software must be downloaded and installed on your

The
"JVA Client" is currently installed on the computers in the NYSID
Library. After installing the JVA Client, it is launched from
your computer's "Start" menu.
Glossary of
Terms (Terms followed by * have an entry in the
Glossary)
Collections -- The IDOL Database is divided
into different "collections*". These
collections can be searched independently
or simultaneously (when using the "JVA Client*";
the Web Browser* does not permit concurrent
searching of more than one
collection).
JVA Client -- A software application
developed by Luna Imaging, Inc. allowing full functionality of IDOL
Database. It
requires download and installation on your computer.
IDOL: Interior Design Online -- The
collection* containing images owned by NYSID or in the Public Domain.
These images
can be used in publications and presentations outside of school and by
the general public.
IDOL Teaching Collection -- The collection*
containing images that are not owned by NYSID or in the Public Domain.
These images can only be used in the classroom or for study by NYSID
students and faculty. They can only be displayed
on password protected intranet sites and may not be disseminated on the
internet.
Insight Personal Collection -- A collection*
built by individual faculty members containing their own images.
It can be
searched independently or concurrently with other IDOL collections.
To access Personal Collections, you must have the
"JVA Client*" installed on your computer.
Luna Imaging, Incorporated -- The company
that makes Luna Insight* software.
Luna Insight -- The name of the database
software which IDOL runs on.
