IDOL (Interior Design OnLine)

IDOL (Interior Design OnLine) is the digital image database of the New York School of Interior Design.  It provides a searchable database of images of architecture, interiors, furniture, architectural details and decorative arts to complement the curriculum of New York School of Interior Design. 

IDOL is divided into two collections that can be searched separately:

• IDOL - Interior Design OnLine, the public end of the collection
• IDOL Teaching Collection - a repository of the personal image collections of NYSID's faculty. 

Both collections can be searched together and incorporated into on-campus presentations, image study pages, etc. The teaching collection is only available on campus or remotely to registered NYSID students, faculty and staff.

IDOL is built in Insight®, a software system developed by Luna Imaging, that allows faculty, students and staff to manage, access, use, and present digital images.

There are two versions of Insight: the web browser version and the java client version.

The browser version (Insight® Web Browser) which opens through your web browser and does not require any downloads is ideal for:

• Students & occasional users of IDOL
• instances where the Java client cannot be downloaded

YOU MUST DISABLE POP-UP BLOCKERS IN YOUR BROWSER. Browser settings that block pop-up ads may prevent correct operation of the browser version (Insight® Web Browser). Disable pop-up blockers or allow pop-ups.

The Java* client version which requires software that must be downloaded from the Luna Imaging web site and installed on your computer is ideal for:

• faculty & frequent users of IDOL
• manipulating images
• creating presentations and exporting them to HTML or PowerPoint
• creating study pages
• cross collection searching

Installing Luna’s Insight Java client software

• Go to: http://www.lunaimaging.com/downloads
• The insight Downloads page opens.
• Go to the Insight v5.5 box, the second red framed box from the top. (N.B. Do not download v5.6)
• Click on the Download Now link which is next to 05/09/2006 - Insight v5.5(19) released
• This will open the Update Page. You may have to scroll up to find Insight v5.5, the second version listed from the top.
• Click the Download link to the right of Insight 5.5.
• The Insight 5.5 Downloads window opens.
• Locate Insight, third from top, and click on Win (for PCs), Mac OS X (for Macs).
• The File Download box opens.
• Click on Save.
• The Save As box opens.
• Save installInsight.exe to the Desktop on your computer.
• Open installInsight.exe and follow installation instructions.
• After installation is complete, close all open screens.

IMPORTANT

After Insight v.5.5 is installed you must change the address of the Insight Authentication Server in the INSIGHT.DAT file.

To locate the INSIGHT.DAT file:

• Click on My Computer and then open your C drive. You may get a message saying the contents of this directory are hidden. Override that message and open contents.
• Follow path below, double clicking to open each directory and/or folder:

►Program Files (override any hidden content messages)

►Luna Imaging

►Insight v5.5

• Double click the INSIGHT.DAT file
• Caution box opens.
• Click on Open With…
• Windows box opens.
• Check Select the program from a list.
• Open With box opens.
• Choose Notepad from Programs list
• INSIGHT.DAT file opens.
• Make the following change: UserServerAddress1 should equal luna.nysid.net (e.g. UserServerAddress1 = luna.nysid.net)

• Save and close file.

Insight v5.5 installation is complete.

You may now delete the installInsight.exe and Register Insight icons on your desktop. (Registering Insight is optional.)

To open Insight v5.5 follow this path:

►start  (bottom left corner of screen)

►All Programs

►Luna Imaging

►Insight v5.5

Log into Insight using your NYSID I.D. and Password.
